Energy Networks Australia CEO Dom van den Berg’s statement on Victorian Gas Substitution Roadmap

“In August this year, Energy Networks Australia called on the Victorian Government to commit to further consultation on the Gas Substitution Roadmap to ensure that any policy decisions didn’t result in unintended adverse impacts to customers and industry.

“Today we welcome their commitment to detailed industry engagement and public consultation throughout 2024 and the exclusion from RIS of industrial and manufacturing sectors.

“We also support the Government’s commitment to deliver bill savings through methods that support renters and households by encouraging important energy efficiency practices, which we believe can further support the reductions of energy bills.

“Effective collaboration across the entire sector is vital to delivering policies that ensure Victoria can keep the lights on throughout the transition. We know gas infrastructure plays a vital role today in the energy mix and will continue to do so as we head towards net zero.

“Our Gas Network members are committed to decarbonising our whole energy system at least cost to the customer and the taxpayer and look forward to working with the Victorian Government on reducing household energy bills in a way that is sustainable for the long term,” Ms van den Berg said.
